Alex's Safe Place
A 501(c)(3) committed to healing with the unconditional love of animals.
Welcome to Alex's Safe Place!
Sit with animals quietly and they will show you their hearts.
Sit with them kindly and they will help you locate yours.
Our mission is to offer healing, hope, and unconditional love through the deep connection between animals and people. We help ease the stress, anxiety, and pain so many—especially our youth—carry. Through this bond, we teach patience, empathy, and kindness, while inspiring future generations to care deeply for animals, each other, and the world we share.
why we do this
After suddenly and unexpectedly losing my beautiful boy Alex, I found myself in immense emotional and mental pain—a pain no one should have to endure. I could find no relief from the gut-wrenching sorrow. After days of struggling, I forced myself to visit my horse, Moki. As I approached him, he stood still and stared at me for a few minutes. With tears streaming down my face, his eyes never left mine as he slowly walked toward me. I sobbed, feeling that he could sense my pain. Moki came closer, gently lifting my arms with his head as if guiding them around his neck. Then, with his massive head and neck, he wrapped me in what became my first horse hug. I cried for what felt like hours, and he stood silently by my side. Moki saved my life that day. Even now, 4 years later, I still cry with him.
As my animals helped heal me with their unconditional love, I realized not everyone is blessed to have such amazing companions. That is why we started Alex’s Safe Place—to share our beautiful animals with those who are grieving, suffering from trauma, stress, or emotional and mental pain. We will pair people with animals, allowing the animals to choose their person, as they instinctively know who needs them most.
Over time, we’ve also seen how these connections can shape young minds. Through hands-on camps and programs—especially for underserved youth—we create space for kids to learn empathy, build confidence, and understand how to live in harmony with animals and nature.
Our goal is simple: to heal hearts, save animals, nurture compassion, and educate future generations to care for and protect the world around them.

We do not charge for this service, this is our gift to you. All this is made possible through generous donations.
We are not licensed therapists; our animals do all the work. Let the healing begin, one person, one animal at a time.
Meet our Animals
Rolex
Rolex, our charming red kangaroo, was born in September 2019. In April 2020, Rolex was gently pulled from the pouch and lovingly bottle-fed. This early care and nurturing helped shape him into the gentle and friendly kangaroo he is today. Rolex joined Alex’s Safe Place, where he has become a beloved member of our sanctuary community, bringing joy and wonder to everyone who visits.
Johnny, Jeffy & Stella Belle
Johnny & Jeffy are father son who came from a wonderful family that could no longer keep them. Stella Belle was born in Montana and loved very much but was 1 too many animals at her current home. All 3 are the sweetest mini donkeys and always together.
Theo
Theo was donated to us from an amazing woman in Indiana who could no longer keep him. An amazing, but shy, gelding who loves to tease his yearling buddy Maverick around on the pasture.
Bow
Bow is our Alpaca who is curious and has no regard for personal space! He came to us with his momma Cupid in 2020. These two are so entertaining just make sure to not stand too close—they do spit!
Fatty Malone
Fatty loves her food and will do almost anything for a treat! Fatty came to us from Idaho where she lived with her owner until her owner (who loved her very much) could no longer care for her do to her age. Fatty loves everyone and is as gentle as they come.
Moki AKA SixStreet
Moki was born in Kentucky and bred for one thing..a racehorse. Moki’s race career was short lived. At age 5 he was pulled from the track and sold to horse flippers. Moki was one of the lucky ones, an experienced woman purchased him. Unfortunately, it was not a good fit. Moki once again was looking for a new home. Blessed that we heard about him, he came to join our family in 2020. We are Moki’s 12th owner/family in his short 6 years. We made a promise to him that he will live out his days with us…Moki you are home!
Cupid
Cupid is our Llama who is so sweet and gentle! She came to us with her son Bow in 2020. When she’s not busy trying to raise Bow, you can find her basking in the sun on some hay.
Benny
Our sweet Benny came to us with his brother, Jett, in the summer of 2024. They were dropped off by a good Samaritan who couldn’t keep them, and, surprisingly to us all, he gets along with the other male bunnies and the kangaroo.
Jett
Jett came to us with his brother, Benny, in summer of 2024. Jett is the more energized bunny of the siblings, and loves to be where the action is at; despite being a sassy bunny at times – we love him.
Ozzie
You can read about Ozzie’s long and tough life before coming to ASP in March 2024 here. Although it’s evident that Ozzie still has some medical and mental challenges, he truly is the dog who has the final say in the household and loves cuddles more than anything. At 12 years old, he’s a senior, and our goal is to give him all the cuddles and love to make up for the years he missed out on.
Molly
Molly was rescued in 2023, and we will provide more info on her soon. She’s the most playful and gentle girl!
Chipster
Chip was abandoned and spent a year at Heaven’s Stable before being adopted by a wonderful family. Unfortunately, life circumstances change. We are very fortunate to now have Chip part of our family! Chip is kind and gentle and can clearly see into the heart and soul of his human.
Maverick
Maverick is a yearling we got in early 2024. He’s slowly but surely learning how to be a gentleman to humans and his four-legged friends, and is a very loving “up-to-no-good” horse; a volunteer favorite(not that we have favorites).
Maggie
Maggie was rescued in…
Murphy
Murphy was rescued in…
Lady
Sweet senior Lady (7) was rescued through Pacific Rim Rescue, along with her daughters Maggie and Murphy, and Molly. This girl is such a sweetheart who is quite shy. However, that doesn’t stop her from being the most loving dog we know.
Penelope
Penelope is our sweet Poodle who wants nothing more than to play and get everyone’s attention – when she’s not chasing rats and squirrels!
